I have a number of certifications, such as a Master’s of Research in Digital Arts & Technology; a Teaching and Education Certificate from Pearson’s, and a hundred and twenty hour TEFOL teaching certificate from a respected provider. These allow me to teach, train and assess to Level T (A). To see my Teaching Qualifications select this link.
The online coaching requires part-time study. The content covers classical as well as new areas of emerging tech and data-backed journalism. These include digital and language skills I suspect all everyone needs to grow and develop in their field. The areas I cover include: open source research (OSINT), script writing and shooting film as well as editing and post production. These are combined with new digital techniques in areas like 3D event reconstruction, low/no code digital apps, interactive reality content and new media journalism. It follows a guided learning approach, meaning the work is portfolio and learner project driven. An approach used by Ifate, the national apprenticeship oversight body under which I practice assessing Content Creators and Broadcast Production Technicians at A or T Level (3 & 4).

Interdisciplinary ESL English Learning
Because of the ups and downs of economies in far off countries, I’ve found it necessary to have a side gig, and for me that was either recording voice overs in English or teaching English as a second language to business people and software companies – most recently through the Fluency Institute in Istanbul. I have also taught ESL online to Chinese younger learners.

There is a minimum level of English skills – intermediate level – needed for the media and open source research and film modules. Interdisciplinary learning, across areas like business, writing, voiceover, technology and creativity, allows learners to be immersed in areas of their own interest or work. Regardless of the subject area, I like to emphasise pronunciation, phrasing as well as presentation. The approach you take will vary widely depending on the medium you want to pursue: podcast, business presentation, vocal and recording technique.
An engaging reference book I used in Turkey is The Play’s The Thing, which intermediate learners find immersive, as it offers language, grammar and real subtext beneath the two-person dialogues extracted from theatrical plays.
Style and tone depends on the medium you’re working in. Radio is usually intimate, but for a performance or presentation, you need to hit certain marks during the beginning, middle and end of your ‘story’: when to be casual, when to be passionate and when to stamp your authority on the presentation. I have a respected ESL certificate and lots of experience teaching English Speaking and Presentation to Business people and Creative Performers, as well as to children online.

The private 1-to-1 learning for convergence media combines traditional methods, such as writing and filmmaking, with new media and digital journalism skills. These include open source research and interactive media, forensic 3D incident reconstruction, satellite photogrammetry video extraction and data and graphics visualisation.
For most of my career I worked in the U.S.A and Turkey in film, editing documentaries, TV, feature films and commercials, but also producing a considerable volume of commercials, music videos and corporate films. Becoming immersed in open source and new media research since returning to the UK, while taking my Master’s degree, that sideline has developed into something of a career training and assessing apprentices for A or T level certification under the UK’s in-work route to accreditation (Ifate).
